PEN Open Days 2008

Final opportunity to see PEN oilseed rape variety trials in 2008

NK have hosted a series of Performance Evaluation Network (PEN) open days across a selection of trials sites in 2008. As well as being able to view new varieties and advances in OSR technology, visitors have had the chance to talk to breeders, merchant traders and advisors on topical issues. NK have also worked with leading distributors and merchants who host their own open days.

The final PEN open day will be at Ballybane, Shanagarry, Co. Cork on Monday 14th July from 10am onwards. We look forward to welcoming you.

NEW for 2008 - Online nitrogen calculator

NK are continually working to provide new tools and information which will benefit UK farmers.

As part of NK’s nitrogen use awareness project we have designed an online nitrogen calculator to enable growers to fine-tune their application rates.  The calculator has been developed using the original ADAS calculations of 175 kg N/ha for a crop with a GAI of 3.5 at mid-flowering aiming for a 3.5 t/ha crop. 

By inputting a crop’s GAI and mineral soil nitrogen levels the calculator will determine how much additional nitrogen is required. It will provide nitrogen application recommendations based on the latest effective date by which it should be applied and, if needed, will also split applications, expanding the original ADAS model.
